A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

Inspired by moccasin game, Mikan is a finding game that passes on phrases in Anishinaabemowin.

Mikan was originally developed for a mobile tablet display within a museum and the game screen will appear small on a computer, but hey, it's free!

Anishinaabemowin is in Western dialect because the game was made for the Duluth Children's Museum in Minnesota. Phrases include:

  • Mikan - Find It
  • Aaniin! - Greetings!
  • Onaabandan! - Choose!
  • Gagwe-mikan! - Try to find it!
  • Jiimaan - Canoe
  • Abwi - Canoe Paddle
  • Bawa'iganaak - Knocker
  • Gaandakii'iganaak - Push Pole
  • Manoomin - Wild Rice
  • Wiigiwaam - Wigwam
  • Wiigwaasinaagan - Birch Bark Container
  • Manoominashk - Wild Rice Stalk
  • Manoominiwazh - Rice Bag

this is a cool game, but the game is really small. I am unable to maximize the window. Is it supposed to be like that?

It'll be smaller than most game screens but shouldn't be really small. It's made for mobile devices and a museum display on a tablet at the Duluth Children's Museum in Minnesota but now available on Windows and Mac for free at home. You should be able to mess around with your display settings to change it.

ah ok, I'll play around with the settings this weekend.
